National Falls Awareness Day is on 23 June 2009 and the theme for 2009 is falls on buses. The day aims to raise awareness about falls and promotes information on staying fit, healthy and independent in later life.
The National Falls Awareness Day is led by Help the Aged in partnership with other leading organisations and events are held across the country on various dates. Help the Aged reported that last year, 620 events were held throughout the UK and abroad.

Oxfordshire County Council - Get onboard for National Falls Awareness Day

Oxfordshire County Council and NHS Oxfordshire will hold a falls awareness health bus tour on Tuesday, June 23 to mark National Falls Awareness Day.
The free health checks will include physiotherapy advice, exercise demonstrations, blood pressure readings, walking aid safety checks, bone health advice, pendant alarm information, fire safety tips and medication advice.
The health bus stops at:
- Witney Market Square from 9.30am to 11am
Sainsbury's car park, Kidlington from midday to 1.30pm
- Castle Quay, Banbury from 2.30pm to 4pm
Information and advice will also be available at:
- Tesco in Banbury and Abingdon and at Faringdon Market Square from 10am to midday
- Bicester Resource Centre and the Meadow Bank Day Centre, Faringdon from 1pm to 3pm
- Wallingford Day Hospital from 1.30pm to 3.30pm
Get involved
Hold an event for National Falls Awareness Day 2009 and raise awareness of the risk of falling in older age. An action pack is available to download from the Help the Aged website which contains ideas for holding an event. You can also order promotional materials such as posters, stickers and balloons. A template press release is also available which you can tailor with your event details and send to local media to raise the profile of your event.
