Why go for regular check-ups?

You are here: Home Page > Foot health information > Common foot problems > Diabetes > Why go for regular check-ups?

If you have diabetes it is important that you have your feet checked at least once a year, so that you receive the appropriate level of care. If the Practice Nurse or GP find you need Podiatry input they will refer you on.

The Podiatrist will be able to treat any corns, callous, ulcers or pressure sores which may have developed. They can give advice on how to cut or file your toenails if you have difficulty; and give advice on footwear. If you have diabetes, you will be given priority in receiving NHS treatment.

The podiatrist is in a position to give you appropriate advice and treatment. Your foot is checked so as to assess the risk of developing complications, for example a foot ulcer.
